The biographer of Jim Henson and George Lucas joins us to discuss another creative genius who shaped America’s cultural life: Theodor Geisel, the writer, poet, and illustrator who used the penname Dr. Seuss. At the time of his death in 1991, Dr. Seuss had published forty-eight books in more than twenty languages; with the 1957 publication of The Cat in the Hat,he had become a national icon. As prolific as Geisel was, his life remained a mysterious figure to those who read him. Jones delves into his early years in Springfield, Massachusetts, at Dartmouth and Oxford; the influence of his Wellesley College graduate wife Helen Geisel; his launch into book publishing from a career as an ad copywriter and political cartoonist; and the impulses, methods, and expertise behind his creative process. Don’t miss leaning more about this inspired – and inspirational – American author.

Brian Jay Jones is the critically acclaimed bestselling biographer of three books on some of the world’s most iconic creative figures, including Jim Henson: The Biography and George Lucas: A Life. For nearly three decades, he has served as a speechwriter for elected officials at all levels of government, including ten years in the United States Senate.

Each writer's hour-long event includes a talk by the author and a moderated Q&A session, followed by a meet-the-author book signing.
